Lucas Ihlein

University of Wollongong
Artist, Lecturer
Wollongong / Sydney
Lucas Ihlein's art projects explore agriculture, social ecology, everyday life, re-enactment, avant-garde cinema history, urban planning, communication and social relations.

Lucas is currently working on a project called "Sugar vs the Reef" in collaboration with an 80 year old farmer from north Queensland. The project uses socially engaged art practice to investigate (and attempt to transform) the cultures of sugar cane farming in Queensland - where fertilizer run-off is one of the major causes of degradation to the Great Barrier Reef.

With artist-archivist Louise Curham, Lucas convenes Teaching and Learning Cinema (TLC), an artist group producing re-enactments of expanded cinema performances from the 1970s. http://teachingandlearningcinema.org

Lucas is a founding member of artist-run printing group Big Fag Press. http://bigfagpress.org

Lucas is a researcher and lecturer in Contemporary Arts at University of Wollongong, Australia.
